my schedule today was a busy one. woke up arnd 8am to have tuition. as expected my tutor came late. n tat give me more time to catch up my sleep while waiting for him on my sofa. after tuition, rushed off to gleneagles hospital for an appoinment with my wrist surgeon, dr chan. he said my wrist has fully recovered and thus, he gave the green light for me to resume my usual activity- rugby. initially was quite scared to see him cos im worried he will say i need more time to recover. but thank god the xrays came out prefect showing the gap in the scaphoid (a bone in the wrist) had covered. after consulting and getting clear by my doc, i had to immediately rush down to scc cos our capt told us to gather there before taking a chartered bus to farrer park to play wolfpackz in the semi-finals.
although we left the club late and had to make a detour for a fellow player, who needed to have his macdonalds lunch before he could play, we still reached farrer park rather early. our physio, eunice did the usual tapings. the rugby playing field there have changed n moved down closer to the car park. so we need to get used to the new playing area. personally, the field now is much smaller than last time. at least in the past, the field was wide.
the game kicked- off with scc dominating wolfpackz in most department. however, the tables turned when scc went to sleep. there was not much continuity in scc's game bcos we were penalized for alot of infrigement. this was rather frustrating bcos everytime when we got were finally at pace and gaining momentum, a player had to give away possession by making basic mistakes. i think like what coach says, we are committing this errors bcos we may not be used to playing with each other thus having our own style. this resulted in wolfpackz taking the lead in the first half.
the second half was a total different story. after regrouping, refocusing and getting back that displicine we needed, scc took their game another to another level. once again dominating in most set pieces especially the linesouts where the turnovers were excellent, we got our act together and played as a team. a few team tries came in the second half and scc took the lead. as we finally settled down, we managed to maintain our lead till the end of the game. the final score was 22-10 in our favour and we are now in the finals. we will be playing bucks in the finals next saturday. the venue is still to be confirmed. nevertheless we are all hoping it would be the padang. after all, scc padang field is the best in singapore now.
taking into account i havent been touching (n i seriously mean touch) the ball for since july, my performance today was okay. passes were accurate but still have alot of room for improvements. fitness is something which i really need to work on! haha. it obvious that after 2-3 mths not playing, u cannot be as fit as you used to be. another area to work on would be my control of the forward pack. im too quiet and not demanding enough. nevertheless, on the whole, i wld say that it was still a comeback i wanted. eventhough it was scary cos not alot of players play the semis on their first return game. and what more finals on their 2nd game but im very sure and convinced i will be play even better. after all, tat is wat recovering from an injury is for. u rest at the same time reflect on ur playing ways so that u can improve on it and become an even better player wen u return.
what made my comeback game even sweeter was that my parents came to watch me! i think i have the best parents on earth. even after gg for one operation after another.. becoming a regular in mount alvernia, gleneagles and mt E, almost all the nurses recognise my face... and spending tons of money on my injury.. they still allowed me to play and even motivated me! they made sure i recovered the best possible way so that i can return playing as fast as possible and in good condition. in addition, they provided me with the equipment and more importantly, the support i needed. they are the best parents anyone can ask for and i thank God for having them. i love them! without them, i would dare say i wont be what i am today.
so now its back to the books (and not boots as much i want it to be.. haha) cos ultimately my priorities now lie in my academics. i want to do well in my As.
